Knoxville Hadassah Book Group

We usually meet monthly on the 3rd Tuesday evening at 7:30pm in the coffee shop area, at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on Kingston Pike. Occasionally we see the movie version of a book we have read.  We have even been known to take a field trip related to a recent book.  We are an informal group.  Anyone can suggest a book on any topic.  All interested women from the greater Knoxville Area are most welcome to join us.

The books we have already read and those we plan to read are listed here as a downloadable pdf file.

On November 17, 2015, Meryll Levine Page, co-author of Jewish Luck: A True Story of Friendship, Deception, and Risky Businessvisited Knoxville and gave several interesting presentations to the local community at the AJCC.  Meryll and her sister Leslie Levine Adler wrote this surprising but entirely true book titled which our book group read recently.  Younger sister Leslie visited Russia in the summer of 1976 as part of her undergraduate Russian Studies program. She returned in 1977 to pursue her friendships from the previous summer. The knowledge and experiences she gained from those on-going relationships are the basis of this story.  Older sister Meryll entered Yale with the first class of women. Second year college found her in Jerusalem at Hebrew University and she graduated from the University of Minnesota the following year. For thirty-nine years Meryll taught history. Most recently she taught International Baccalaureate History and US History at St. Louis Park Senior High. Many of her special interests converged in researching Jewish Luck: Russian History, Jewish History, women’s history, and travel.
